    Conure Parrots

    General:
The clever and comical conure is an intelligent and playful bird. There are
over 100 species of conures. Many can learn to speak very well and
    perform a variety of  tricks.

Some of the more popular pet companion conures include the beautiful
Sun Conure, Jendaya Conure, Blue Crown Conure, Cherry Head Conure,
Green Cheek Conure, and the Nanday conure. Check out the complete list
of conure species and learn something new.

    Environment:
Conure parrots originate from South and Central America. In the wild,
conure parrots are very friendly and peaceful birds. They normally reside
in flocks of 20 or more up in trees.

    Diet:
Conures in the wild feed on a variety of seeds, fruits, and insects. It is only
appropriate to provide a nutritional based diet consistent with their natural
habitat. Check out  the fresh foods you should be feeding your parrot on
    our fresh food list.

A proper daily conure diet consist of fresh fruits, vegetables, a high quality
conure seed mix, and formulated parrot pellets. Sprouts are a favorite for
most conures and are available at your supermarket in either alfalfa, bean,
or broccoli. Replenishing clean drinking water twice daily or any time water
has been contaminated is a necessary step to maintaining a healthy parrot.

    Breeding:
With the proper environment, diet, and social needs, conures can become
successful breeders. Establishing a proven pair of conures requires DNA
or surgically testing. DNA testing gives accurate and faster results in most
cases and is relatively inexpensive. Conures will lay on average four to six
eggs. Incubation time is about 23 days depending on the species.
Hatchlings can be pulled from the nest at two to three weeks old for
    handfeeding.

It is important to observe chicks daily to insure parents are doing their
part.  Observing signs of parents feeding or a filled crop in baby is a
healthy sign they are being cared for properly.

Once pulled and transferred to artificial incubation, handfeeding can begin
by the human parent. Weaning a conure should be a pleasant and fun
experience. It is exciting to see the babies exploring the newly fresh fruits,
vegetables, and sprouts that are offered to start the weaning process.
Chicks will wean at two to three months of age.

    Captivity:
Conures are super silly and fun to have! A hand-fed and tame conure can
give hours of entertainment to the family. It is important to provide several
brightly colored toys to maintain a high quality of life for your bird. We
have found that most conures enjoy the birdie links and vegetable dyed
    rawhide parrot toys.

Most conures enjoy a daily mist or bath. Giving your parrot a shower or
mist will greatly improve their feather production and emotional well-being.
As a general rule with cage requirements, parrots should have plenty of
room to spread their wings and tails should not hit the ground. When
choosing a location for your conure to be housed in, keep in mind that
they should be kept close to where the family spends the most time. We
highly recommend purchasing an acrylic cage for your bird. There are
several benefits for the conure and owner with these beautiful cages.

Many species of conures can be loud at certain times of the day, so if
noise is a problem, you will want to research the type of conure you are
interested in and see if it is compatible with your personality and home
environment. Parrots and conures should become members of the
    household for life.
